Martyr
"When a character with the Martyr ability dies in a battle, it gives adjacent characters +1 to all stats."
Multiple monsters with martyr can be used to increase the stats of the same monster.
Notable Rulesets
Top 3 Rulesets | Bottom 3 Rulesets |
Earthquake/Noxious Fumes - any ruleset that helps to speed your monster with martyr towards death will benefit you. The value of 1 damage to all enemy monsters can not be over stated. | Reverse Speed - An increase in stats (specifically speed) will hamper your efforts at victory here. |
Counterspell/Fire & Regret/Briar Patch - Depending upon your strategy, you may choose to sacrifice your monster with martyr early to reap the rewards of +1 damage to your opponent. These rulesets are ideal for such an action. | Equalizer - Starting off on even footing as far as health goes can be useful in general. However, consider that your monster with martyr may outlive other members of your lineup. Preventing the 1 damage to enemy monsters from taking effect in a timely fashion. Be sure to place your monster strategically if you choose to include it in your lineup. |
Target Practice - All ranged and magic attack monsters have the Snipe ability. Consider placing your monster strategically - as fodder for sniping monsters. | Melee Mayhem - Currently, no monsters with Martyr and Melee attacks exist. Rendering this ability unusable within this ruleset. |
Notable Abilities
Top 3 Abilities | Bottom 3 Abilities |
Bloodlust - A prime companion to martyr - an increase in stats occurs upon each successful destruction of opposing monsters. Consider surrounding your monster with bloodlust with martyrs. |
Taunt - Drawing fire away from your monster with martyr may prevent this ability from triggering as early as you would like. Considering placing this monster in the first position and your taunting monster in the second so that they face the onslaught stronger and faster. If your monster with taunt is also a martyr, consider placing them strategically so that they are adjacent to two monsters, rather than 1. |
Conscript - Summoners with the Conscript ability can summon one additional gladiator card to battle. Gladiator cards always possess the bloodlust ability. Imagine the devastation! | Sneak - If your opponent relies heavily upon monsters with sneak rather than snipe or opportunity, consider the impact of your monster with martyr being the last one standing. Strategic placement is key. |
Inspire - +1 to melee attacks will be increased when the martyr ability is triggered. Consider including any ability that increases stats in your lineup (Swiftness, Protect, Strengthen) | Camouflage - If your opponent can not target your martyr other than with scattershot, the martyr ability may not trigger until it is too late. Consider the implications of pairing summoner Lily Shieldpaw with this ability. |
