Below I will navigate you through the process of changing your recovery account. The recovery account is essential to keep up-to-date as it is used to restore your keys if your account is ever compromised.
At Splinterlands, we use steemmonsters as the recovery account.
Step 1. Get your most recent owner key.
Step 2. Go to peakd.com (This is the blogging component of peakmonsters.com). We will be using their wallet functions to change your passwords. Click on the Login button in the upper right-hand corner.
Step 3. If you have HIVE Keychain installed (which we highly recommend), use the blue-circled area to sign in. If you don't have a hive keychain, sign in using the hivesigner in the bottom red circle.
Step 4. Use hivesigner as your sign-in method, and you will see this screen. We recommend encrypting here or making sure you clear your cache when this whole process is over. Use your owner key here.
Step 5. After you sign into peakd.com, you will come to this screen. First, click on your name in the blue circle, then click the wallet link circled in red here.
Step 6. When you get to the wallet screen, click on the Account Actions button circled in red, then click on the Keys & Permissions button circled in blue.
Step 7: The next screen you come to will look like this. Click on the Recovery Account tab circled in red.
STEP 8: Your screen will look like this when you get to it. Please click the Change with Hivesigner option circled in red.
STEP 9: The next screen will look like this and will ask you who you want your new recovery account to be. We suggest using steemmonsters as the recovery account; steemmonsters is the legacy name of Splinterlands, and every account created by Splinterlands uses steemmonsters as our recovery account. Then click the Confirm button.
STEP 10: In the explorer bar in blue, you will be re-routed through hivesigner.com. Make sure your account is in green, and it says steemmonsters in red. Then click the Approve button in purple.
STEP 11: This is what the next page will look like: make sure your name is in purple, steemmonsters is in red, and it says "Transaction has been successfully broadcasted" in the blue circle.
You will now want to go back to peakd.com and do steps 5-8 again, but step 8 should now look like the above.
That is the end of the steps; please follow the blue circles at the top and bottom to log out.
