Removing Keys from the Extension
Step 1 - Installing the Hive Keychain Extension.
Step 1.1: In your preferred search engine (e.g., Google), search for Hive Keychain and ensure you select the official website — it should be hive-keychain.com. You can also access it directly by visiting https://hive-keychain.com.
Step 1.2: On the Hive Keychain website, choose the extension and click the icon that matches the browser you plan to use. Hive Keychain is available for Firefox, Brave, Edge, Opera and Google Chrome.
Step 1.3: After clicking the icon for your chosen browser, you’ll be redirected to the appropriate extension store, where you can add the Hive Keychain extension to your browser.
Step 1.4: After clicking Add to Chrome, your browser will prompt you to confirm the installation. Click Add Extension to complete the process.
Step 1.5: Once installed, the extension is ready to use. By default, it appears in the extensions menu at the top-right corner of your browser, represented by a puzzle piece icon. You can optionally click the pin icon next to the extension name to keep it visible in the browser toolbar at all times.
Step 2 - Setup the browser extension and importing your keys.
Step 2.1: Create a new password.
When you first open Hive Keychain, you’ll be prompted to create a new password. This password is separate from your other passwords and is used to unlock the browser extension or decrypt your keys file when importing it.
Choose a secure password and hit the Submit button, but remember—you’ll need to enter it each time you unlock the extension.
Step 2.2: Choose a method to import your keys either by using your Master Password or by importing your individual keys.
In the next step you have different option to import your keys, if you have your Master Password or posting key you can use the "Use keys/pwd" option to import them
The Master Password is the one retrieved during the 5 Steps to Retrieving Your Hive Private Keys. If you haven’t obtained it yet, you can request it by following the instructions in that article.
Step 2.3: In the Username and Private Key fields, enter your Account Username and Master Password, then click Submit.
Make sure your username is in all lowercase letters, without the @ symbol, and contains no trailing spaces, or you may encounter issues during the import process.
Note: You can also import individual keys instead of the Master Password. However, using the Master Password is more efficient, as it automatically generates all your keys.
Step 2.3: Select the keys you want to import from your Master Password and click the Save button.
By default, all keys are selected. You can uncheck any boxes to skip importing specific keys.
In general:
To access the game and perform actions on the website, you need your Posting Key.
For financial transactions involving valuable assets, the Active Key is required.
Step 2.4: After importing your keys, you will be automatically redirected to your wallet then Hive Keychain is now ready to use.
Step 3 - Login to Splinterlands using the Hive Keychain Extension.
Step 3.1: Go to splinterlands.com and click Login in the top-right corner, or select Start My Adventure in the center of the page.
Step 3.2: Enter your username and click the Login with Hive Keychain button.
Step 3.3: You will be prompted to sign a message with the posting key, click Confirm.
Optionally, you can check “Do not prompt again to verify keys” to prevent this prompt from appearing each time a signature is required.
Step 3.4: After you click Confirm, the website will show you as logged in.
Step 4 - TAKE ALL LEFTOVER COPIES OF YOUR KEYS AND PUT THEM IN COLD STORAGE.
Now that we have verified your keys work you will do the most important step in the process.
A zip drive or external hard drive is the best for this. Take your master password, remove it from any access to the internet, and put it in a safe location in case you need it. Be creative, be safe, and have a plan in place in case you become incapacitated.
