The account recovery is a feature on the Hive Blockchain that allows a trusted entity previously set as the "Recovery Account" to generate a new set of private and public keys on behalf of the requester. By initiating an account recovery, people whose accounts have been compromised might be able to recover access to their accounts and assets.
You can check your recovery account anytime on hiveblocks by searching your username on the search bar and looking up the Recovery account property. The recovery account may be changed anytime by broadcasting a transaction on the blockchain with your owner key. Your recovery account automatically defaults to the account that created your account.
Changing Recovery Account
The Recovery Account can be changed at any time using your Owner Authority (Owner Key). This process takes 30 days to be completed once initiated. You can use PeakD to set up a new recovery account or any other front-end of your preference.
There are some things that you may consider before changing your recovery account
- Do your own research, before changing your recovery account
- Make sure you can trust your recovery account.
- Do not set an account as its own recovery account. If you want to do self-recovery, set a secondary account as the recovery account.
Account Recovery on Hive Community
The account recovery can only be initialized if the owner key of the account to recover has been changed within the last 30 days. If 30 days have passed, there is no recovery possible. Over the years, different developers around the community have created front ends to change the recovery account or recover it quickly.

You can read more info about their service by reading his User Guide. It is an autonomous service that works uninterrupted to recover accounts that have hive.recovery
as the recovery account. It also has the option to set up a new recovery account.
