SPS (Splintershards) is a token that can be transferred to and from various external blockchains, into and out of Splinterlands. The most common of these will be BSC (BNB Smart Chain) and ETH, both of which work essentially the same way. For this article, we'll stick with BSC since it has the cheapest gas, and is what the majority of users will be utilizing. You need to have already set-up Metamask, added the BNB Smart Chain network (and possibly a new wallet, though any ETH wallet will also exist on BSC) in Metamask, and then linked that external wallet to Splinterlands.
Once all of these steps are completed, you can begin transferring SPS into and out of Splinterlands.
All transfers from these external chains are handled by bridges run by ZKCross, a third party partner specializing in these sorts of cross-chain services.
Transferring Out SPS, From Splinterlands to BSC
We will begin with transferring SPS from Splinterlands to your BSC wallet (Transfer Out). As mentioned before, for this article, we're going to stick with BSC since it has the cheapest gas, and is what the majority of users will be utilizing, but the same process will apply to ETH as well.
Step 1: On the top bar, click your SPS balance to navigate to the SPS management page:
Step 2: Click on the Transfer button on the left-hand side of the page:
Step 3: In the first dropdown menu (From) choose In Game, and in the second (To) choose Binance Smart Chain. Under quantity, enter the amount of SPS you wish to transfer to your BSC wallet, then click Transfer:
Step 4: You will be taken to the page seen below, showing the amount to transfer, the wallet address that will receive these tokens, the fee for ZKCross bridge usage, an estimate of the gas required, and an estimate of the total SPS you will receive on BSC.
If everything looks correct, click Start Transfer:
Step 5: You will be prompted to sign a transaction via Keychain. Click Confirm:
Step 6: The site will refresh, and load the page below, showing you all of the information related to this transaction. If you have any issues with a transaction, make sure to save this information, as ZKCross or Splinterlands support may need some of it.
Step 8: Once successfully processed via ZKCross's bridge, you will see a banner notification in the top right of Splinterlands saying 'Tokens sent!', as seen below, as well as the 'Release TX ID' (in the section above) stop loading an actual transaction ID will fill in that space. You can now check Metamask and confirm the tokens as being received in your wallet. Generally, BSC transfers should be quite quick, though if you do not see them immediately, please be patient as the bridges and blockchains may have some slight delays.
Transferring In SPS, From BSC to Splinterlands
Next, we will go over transferring DEC into Splinterlands from your BSC/ETH wallet (Transfer In). As mentioned before, for this article, we're going to stick with BSC since it has the cheapest gas, and is what the majority of users will be utilizing, but the same process will apply to ETH as well.
Step 1: As with the above, click your SPS balance to navigate to the SPS management page:
Step 2: Click on the Transfer button on the left-hand side of the page:
Step 3: In the first dropdown menu (From) choose Binance Smart Chain, and in the second (To) choose In Game. Under quantity, enter the amount of SPS you wish to transfer to your BSC wallet, then click Transfer:
Step 4: You will be taken to the page seen below, showing various info about the transfer, though some of this won't be filled in yet (such as Deposit and Release TX IDs); these will be populated as the process continues.
If everything looks correct, click Start Transfer:
Step 5: Now, your Metamask extension should open, and you will be prompted to go through a few steps there. Depending on if this is your first time doing a transfer for like this, Metamask may begin by asking you set a spending cap for this token and contract. This is a security feature so if you ever were to lose access to your wallet, or engage with a nefarious contract, all of funds could not be automatically taken.
Please note, if you enter an amount less than what you're attempting to transfer in, you may find the gas fees suddenly jump to ridiculous levels, so we recommend not using Metamask's default, and setting an amount you're comfortable with (that is at least the amount you're attempting to transfer in).
Set a spending cap (then click next): |
Approve that cap: |
Step 6: Once you have confirmed the spending cap, on Splinterlands you will see the Status of your transfer begin to change:
Step 7: Once it reaches 'Deposit, you will need to confirm the actual transaction, sending the SPS tokens to ZKCross bridge, via Metamask which will open again. Click Confirm in Metamask:
Eventually, the process on the Splinterlands transfer page reach 'Success':
Step 8: Once the bridge has completed receiving and processing your tokens, and sending you the SPS in game, you will receive a confirmation via a banner in the top right of Splinterlands, as seen below:
With that, you now are able to transfer SPS into and out of Splinterlands via BSC/ETH! If you run into issues during this process, you may need to contact ZKCross Support, or speak with us, depending on the problem.
