What is KYC?
KYC stands for know your client/customer. It is a set of protocols used to verify identity. In this relatively simple process, all you need to provide is a valid, government issued ID and a selfie. This is an exceptional security feature which sets Splinterlands apart from other blockchain based games. Going through the process benefits both the individual player as well as the overall integrity of the game. A rigorous identity verification process means that far fewer scammers are able to access certain aspects of the game. It means that the deck you are playing against likely has a real human backing it.
Why did I fail KYC?
In order for the KYC process to be completed effectively, 2 things are required of you.
1. Valid, non-expired government issued ID. Please ensure that your document is not expired before submitting it for the KYC process as it will not pass otherwise. Ensure that photos of the document are clear and without a glare. If your document has visible damage, it may cause an error which must be manually resolved.
2. A front facing selfie. Please avoid filters, silly faces, and extreme lighting. Too much brightness can cause a reflective glare which will result in failed verification. If your physical appearance is now significantly different than it was when your photo ID was taken and you have failed KYC, please submit a ticket to Tech Support.
What are some other reasons I may have failed my KYC verification process?
1. Are you over 18? The KYC process will only allow those over 18. Although Splinterlands is intended for those over 16, financial transactions must take place between adults and the company for legal reasons.
2. When asked to input your name, did you do so exactly as it appears on your license? No nicknames or differing spellings.
