What is KYC?
KYC stands for know your client/customer and is a set of protocols used to verify your identity. For this process you'll need to provide a valid government-issued ID and a selfie. This security feature sets Splinterlands apart from other blockchain-based games because it benefits the individual player and the overall integrity of the game. A rigorous identity verification process means that fewer scammers are able to access certain aspects of the game and that the deck you are playing against likely has a real human backing it.
Why Did I Fail KYC?
In order for the KYC process to be completed, you will need two things:
1. A valid, unexpired, government-issued ID. If it is expired, it will not pass the KYC process. Make sure that photos of the ID are clear and without glare. If your document has visible damage, it may cause an error that must be manually resolved.
2. A front-facing selfie. Please avoid filters, silly faces, and extreme lighting. Brightness can cause a reflective glare which will result in a failed verification. If your physical appearance is significantly different than it was when your photo ID was taken and you have failed KYC, please submit a ticket to Tech Support.
Other Reasons for a Failed KYC Verification
1. Are you over 18? The KYC process will only allow those over 18. Although Splinterlands is intended for those over 16, financial transactions must take place between adults and the company for legal reasons.
2. When asked to input your name, did you do so exactly as it appears on your license? No nicknames or differing spellings.
If you have gone through the appropriate steps and made sure that all documentation is valid and clear in photos, but are still experiencing difficulty, the best way to troubleshoot is to have Tech Support help. Tech support can assist in the processing of KYC through manual verification. Please do not hesitate to submit a ticket if your KYC process is not approved.
